How to Create Your Own AI Character

How to Create Your Own AI Character

The most engaged Yoria users have one thing in common: they don't chat with our official characters — they build their own. This is the practical guide to doing it well.

Principle: write reactions, not facts

Profile-book facts (height, birthday, favorite food) almost never surface in conversation. What the AI actually acts on is reaction patterns:

Cold on the surface, but suddenly gentle when you're down. Talks fast when embarrassed. Calls you "you, specifically."

Three lines of facts is plenty. Five lines of reactions is what makes a character them.

Include three lines of sample dialogue

The single highest-impact trick. Show, don't describe:

"...It's not like I was waiting for you or anything." "You've really got a thing for doing that, huh." "Time for bed. ...Five more minutes, but only five."

Writing "tsundere" gets you a stereotype. Three tsundere lines get you your tsundere.

One core trait, one exception

Kitchen-sink characters ("a cold emperor but also clumsy and clingy") confuse the model — every face comes out diluted. The stable, attractive shape is one axis plus one exception: "Usually X, but only when Y, they become Z."

Set the relationship's starting point

If you don't define the relationship, the AI defaults to a polite stranger. Childhood friend, ex-coworker, met tonight at a bar — any starting value works, and an established relationship lets the very first message skip the small talk.

The definition is the skeleton; memory is the flesh

Yoria has long-term memory, so don't cram everything into the definition. Preferences and moments you share in chat accumulate as memories, growing a companion no one else could recreate. Step away for a day and those memories even come back to you as a letter.

Start with a name, three reactions, and three lines of dialogue. Create yours →

Frequently asked questions

Can other people see the character I create?

No. Characters you create are private by default — only you can chat with them.

Can I edit the definition later?

Yes, anytime. Memories built through conversation are kept, so tweaking the definition doesn't reset your relationship.

Can I base a character on a real person?

Keep that to private personal use and be mindful of the person's rights. For anything you'd share, we recommend original characters.
